Class 6
Our Class Saint:
Saint Martin de Porres (1579–1639) was a kind and humble man from Lima, Peru, who is known for his amazing compassion and generosity. He was the son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed African woman, but because of his mixed race, he faced discrimination throughout his life.
Martin became a Dominican lay brother at a monastery, where he spent his time helping the sick and the poor. He was known for his love of animals and cared for stray cats and dogs. People admired his gentle heart and his miracles, like healing the sick and even appearing in different places at the same time to help others.
Saint Martin taught everyone that kindness, humility, and service are what truly matter. He is now the patron saint of racial harmony and people who are struggling in poverty. His feast day is celebrated on November 3rd.
