Our Class saint is Kateri Tekakwitha. Her feast day is on the 14th July.
- PE day is on a Tuesday. Pupils will need to wear black or navy joggers, leggings or shorts, a white t-shirt and trainers.
- Recorder lessons will take place every Thursday morning.
- Reading books - Please read with your child as often as possible, as this will improve confidence and fluency. Reading books should be changed at least once a week.
- We aim to take the children to the library every Friday, so please ensure these books are brought back so they can be changed.
Autumn Term 2024
Maths
Regular times tables practice will help children within their Maths lessons. These can be practiced on Times Table Rock stars, which all children have to access to through their own personal log in.
In Class 3, children should know the 2, 5 and 10 times tables confidently. By the end of the year, they should also be confident with 3, 4, and 8 times tables. Once these are secure, please support your child in learning the rest of the times tables, as this will help them when it comes to the statutory times tables test at the end of Year 4.
In our Maths lessons we follow the White Rose Maths scheme. Our topics this term are place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also be continuing to revise our arithmetic skills.
English
This half term we will be using the text The Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura to write our own narratives about a Stone Age girl who ends up in Bradford in 2024. We will then write a character description about the Stone Age girl.
After half term, we will use the text Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl to write a setting description of the Chocolate room and a character description of Willy Wonka.
Science
Our topics this term are Rocks and Forces and magnets. We will be finding out the answers to the questions 'What are the main types of rock on Earth?' and 'What are magnets and forces?' We will also be looking at the paleontologist Mary Anning and the inventor John McAdam.
Religious Education
This term we will be looking at 'The Christian Family'. In this unit we will develop our knowledge and understanding of the sacrament of Baptism. We will explore what it means to belong to a family and we will learn about the Christian family.
We will then complete the topic 'Mary, Mother of God'. In this unit we will reflect on the role of Mary and develop our understanding of Advent as a time of preparation for the birth of Jesus and we will reflect on the true meaning of Chrismas.
At the end of the first half term we will be learning about Islam during our Other Faith week.
History
During this term we will be answering the question 'How did Britain change between the beginning of the Stone Age and the end of the Iron Age?'. We will learn about settlements, food, beliefs and artefacts from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.
After that we will look at the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain.
Geography
During this term we will be answering the questions 'How can we describe the location of places?' and 'Where do I live?' We will be learning to use maps and atlases to locate and talk about different places and we will find out a little bit more about where we live in the UK.
PSHCE
Our topics this term are Me & my Relationships and Valuing Differences. We will also be visited by Harold the Giraffe and the Life Education team this term.
Art / DT
Our topics this term are Abstract Art and Dips.
Computing
Our first topic this term is Computer systems and Networks. During this unit, we will challenge ourselves to develop our understanding of digital devices, with an initial focus on inputs, processes, and outputs. We will start by comparing digital and non-digital devices, before being introduced to computer networks that include network infrastructure devices like routers and switches.
We will then look at the topic Creating Media - Stop-frame Animation. We will use a range of techniques to create a stop-frame animation using tablets. Next, we will apply those skills to create a story-based animation. This unit will conclude with us adding other types of media to our animation, such as music and text.
Spanish
We will be learning basic greetings and introductions as we begin our Spanish journey.
